Bob,
I have had a Heathkit QF-1 multiplier tied to my HQ 180A almost since
it was new (1963). I never regretted it. Performance was definitely
enhanced IMHO. I would do it again. It is a trivial mod. What I did
was drill a hole in the chassis between two IF cans and mounted a RCA
connector and tied it to the 455kc IF. I ran the Q multiplier coax with
a male RCA plug through the finger hole in the top lid to avoid
modifying the exterior of the HQ 180A. Hooking up to the accessory
socket of the HQ 108A finished the job. The other nice thing is the
colors of the Q multiplier match the HQ 180A colors very well. Give it
a shot.....it's no big deal to do.
Good luck.
