Back off the RF gain a bit, then proceed to the appropriate side of the 
signal to tune it. 40 m and below are generally LSB, 20 and up are 
generally USB. Takes a little getting used to and isn't something you'd 
want to to do get a signal tuned in quickly. With a bit of practice it's 
not too difficult. If I'm not sure I'll tune past the signal until it 
disappears, then tune back to it again, trying both sides until I find 
it. Riding the RF Gain control is key for moderate to strong signals.

Of course, this assumes you are indeed tuning in a SSB station. DSB 
isn't as picky to tune, either side works. Can't comment on the 'wide 
audio' SSB - they should just g to AM and do it right.
