[Hammarlund] Collins or Hammarlund?

T'is so with models other than the SP-600, too. My Collins 75S-3 is rock
stable almost from the moment of turn-on with flawless dial tracking and
accuracy. My Hammarlund HQ-170A -- despite its perpetually heated HF
oscillator and first mixer tubes -- never seems to settle down completely
and has a frequency readout that can only be called "approximate." I think
that's the real reason it's equipped with its Vernier Tuning control. I
still love that radio, though.
By the way, if anyone has any hints about increasing the stability and
readout accuracy of the HQ-series receivers, please submit them. You can
even flame me for doubting the solidity of these sets, as long as you tell
us how to fix them.
