But wait, there is more:
Dallas wrote an 18 +/- page "Overhaul Notes" on the URM-25D that is
indispensable if you are going to overhaul one or keep it running. It
details the parts that need to be replaced (surprize! Black Beauties) and
just how to keep from damaging the line cord feed through insulators, among
many other things.
Ralph Sanserino sold reprints for a lowly dollar, and most likely he or the
current HSN folks still do.
In August 03 this was current info:
"...Back issues are $1 each. Latest issue is # 53.
Issue # 1 thru # 31 have been compiled and go for $15 for the set.
The compilation PLUS issues 32 - 53 can all be had for $35 postpaid.
Make check payable to:
Ralph Sanserino
PO box 1831
Perris CA 92572"
I suggest you send him a buck or two and a big 8-1/2 by 11 sase and see
what he sends back.
Note: these notes by Dallas are for the D model. He has told me he never
did re-write them for the F model. That would be a noble task for someone
who is as thorough as Dallas was.
Here is a list of items that are useful to find for this signal generator,
other than of course the military technical manuals for the thing:
Hollow State Newsletter
Issue 41, Spring 1997
- URM-25D Rebuild Notes Supplement (about the Terminal Board, Courtesy of
Ray Mote)
This issue also contains:
- Captain Lee's Product Dectector for the R-390/R-390A - Revisited - Part 2
- "SSB Adapter" - Revisited (see HSN #10 for Lankfords initial report):
bridge rectifier and 6Uf capacitor only found inside.
HSN Issue 34 Winter 1994-95. Short Subjects: "Balky Modulation Oscillator
in the URM-25, by Allan Douglas (about replacing parts in the R-C "T
network" and padding a capacitor to make it work again)
E-mail from Nolan Lee to Roy Morgan Dec 22, 1998 advising to replace the
coax cables found with URM-25's since they are often lossy, replacing the
coupling cap in the "Test Lead" to prevent damage to the attenuator from
B+, and checking all cap and resistor values in the generator.
URM-25D Overhaul Notes by Dallas Lankford 11-88, revised. 1-94, with copy
of HSN Supplement from Issue 41 about the "Terminal Board" (the terminal
board layout and parts were not included in the original Overhaul
Notes. The Overhaul Notes were never published in HSN, but were announced
in one issue.)

I don't have full details on other later military manuals, but I do have a
PDF version of a repair parts and special tools list. This particular
manual is not very interesting by the way, since it just lists parts.
