[Hammarlund] Collins or Hammarlund?

Hi y'all,

As expected, my R-390 (I should have said R-390A) vs SP-600 query has
elicted much response. The consensus seems to be that the SP-600 looks and
sounds better, but the R-390A is technically superior -- also as expected.
Several correspondents suggested acquiring both. An excellent and fun idea!
I'm sure my XYL would wholeheartedly champion this course of action. :-).

One nice fella suggested the relatively lightweight Collins 51J-4 as an
alternative to both. And, I'm thinking about the 51S-3 (which would mate
nicely with my S-3 Line). Whaddya think?

Oh, the comparison between the R-390 and SP-600 is not unlike the
differences between my Collins 75S-3 and Hammarlund HQ-170A.  The Hammarlund
sounds nicer (and has some nifty features which add to its versatility), but
the Collins is more sensitive and selective. The Hammarlund is a better
"casual listener" and the Collins wins as a "communications" receiver.
