Craig, I had a hunch that filtering was the problem. Way to go. I have a
Knight-Kit Star Roamer which is not a DX machine but nice for bedside
listening. Got it at a hamfest for five dollars. Had a loud hum due to worn
out filter cap can. I installed 4700mfd caps according to the parts list but
still had some hum. In my junkbox, I found a Mallory cap with screw
terminals on it. A big monster (100,000MFD at 100 volts). What else would I
use it for? My Star Roamer has absolutely no hum. This big blue cap sits on
the table behind the radio hooked up by a couple of wires. Hey, whatever
