Lou,
The note on the schematic in my manual copy says:
"IF aligned at 60 kHz with S5 in .5 KC and S6 in Pos.1" S5 is the
selectivity switch, and S6 position 1 is LSB.
The alignment text says, "Turn the selectivity switch to 0.5 kHz and the
side band switch to "L".
No disagreement. And it worked for me.
Also - the text says, "Connect the output cable of a 60 Kcs unmodulated
signal generator . . . to the grid (pin 7) of third mixer V5 and the
chassis.
So - this manual (a copy from Hi-Manuals) may be a later version than yours.
It says on the front, "Issue no. 5, for all receivers after serial #3900."
For the pickoff point, it states, "Connect a dc vacuum tube voltmenter
across C44." My notes say this is on the terminal strip next to V8.
Hope this helps you. All of this worked well for my receiver, which plays
very well.
73,
Rocco N6KN

Thanks for all advise on the procedure..The procedure in the manual is
wrong..Further in aligning the 455khz IF ,access to pin 7 of V2 is nearly
impossible ....
