Hi Larry. It could be a number of things as well as the AVC circuit. Some
other things to check are- IF or RF peaked to sharply, OSC tube may be weak,
The Det tube may be defective, Check the AVC bypass condenser, Defective
audio trans, Make sure your power supply is working properly and delivering
the correct voltages to the filaments, grid ,plate, screen etc.. and that
the rectifier tube is working right. Other things like the wrong tube
installed, bad volume pot, grounded or open resistor, open or shorted
condenser etc... Hope this helps

I was lucky enought to aquire one of these old sets. I need a manual or a
copy of one if someone would care to copy/sell or part with one. It works,
but is very distorted on just about any signal that has strength to it - may
have an avc problem. Any ideas on what might be at the root of that? Any
help or ideas would be much appreciated.
