Hi Gang,
Just thought I'd mention my own experience with noise.
I'm out in the middle of a very sparsely populated area. When
I moved here it was dead quiet. Less than S-1 noise level on the R-4C
or 75S-3B. Then slowly I noticed that it was getting noisier and noisier.
So I went looking for the noise. I found that the television, VCR, computer
and it monitor were all contributing to the problem. My new TV has 15 khz
spurs
all the way up to 60 Mhz. It wipes out the BC band on the older radios
that can here.
the cheap ones that can't are devoid of the noise, but receive only one or
two stations
anyway. I'm sure that it's a combination of the oscillators and the
switching power supplies
in the gear. If I shut off the power to them all, we're back to an S-1
noise level. Outside
antennas with shielded and grounded lead wires help a lot but it's never
completely gone.
How do you fix it?? Buy a bunch of split cores for the power leads to go
through,
make sure that all the cables are shielded, and finally get rid of the
noisy stuff and replace it
with items that are quiet. I did that with the computer and the monitor
(both are now NEW HP's)
and one TV. The other one and the VCR I'm working on methods to eliminate
the noise.
Oh, the CD player is a contributor as well. Cores on the power cable and
GOOD shielded cables
helped that problem. AIN'T HAM RADIO FUN!!
Thanks!!
