Thanks to all of you who responded to my plea for help on my SP-600. It
looks like I may have to remove
the Turrent to get to the little clips/springs that contact the prongs on
the tuning turrent. I don't even want to think
about what's involved in this task. I may put it back together and live with
it. I can still hear stations on 3.4 to 7.4 Band,
but they are not as strong as when I advance the Band Change Knob slightly.
It really works great on all other bands.
I have cleaned the little prongs on the turrent, no help. I noticed some
grease looking stuff on the prongs and cleaned it off, but I am now
wondering if that is used to lubricate the prongs as they go through the
contact clips/springs. Is there some lubricant that I need to put on these
prongs before I put it back to gather? This is a really nice SP-600JX17 and
looks almost unused. I can't figure how one of the little clips got worn
out. Maybe it broke or is bent? I really figured that it was just dirty.
However, repeated cleaning of the prongs that pass through the clips does
not help.
Thanks again for all your help.

PS Does anyone know if there someone that works/restores these receivers?
I have a nice Hammarlund SP-600JX17 Receiver. It works great now that I have
the tuning control working, thanks to help from several fellows in the
Group. However,
I have now noticed one additional problem. The receiver is very sensitive on
all bands except the
3.45-7.4 band position. On that band, sensitivity is way down until I turn
the Band Change control slightly clockwise, then the sensitivity jumps up to
the level I notice on other bands. I have to hold the knob in this position.
If I let go of it, it pops back in position and the sensitivity goes down.
This is the only band where this happens. I cleaned the little pins on the
tuning turrent, but still the same problem. Any ideas? This receiver does
not look like it has been used much, so I don't think that it is worn out.
Thanks for any help you all can provide,
