1. I would say the Collins R-390. If we forget about million channel
memories, LCD displays and so on, my understanding is that even by today's
standards, it is still the most sophisticated receiver design ever created.
Wasn't it so good that the government kept it classified from the public
until sometime in the 1980's?
2. Hammarlund HQ-110. On AM shortwave stations on 40 and 15 meters, it's
audio is outstanding, especially for music. I run it through my hi-fi system
because it truly sounds "hi-fi". 3. Probably in the range
of receivers from the likes of H.H. Scott or Harmon Kardon. Also Zenith and
Philco. 4. Knight-kit Star Roamer. Because I built it when I
was in 8th grade (1967) and it worked on first time power-up. Today it sits
on my bedside table and still works great.
5. Maybe Hammarlund HQ-170. 6. Hammarlund HQ-110.
7. My guess would have to be Hallicrafters.
8. Collins R-390 as explained above. 9. Hammarlund HQ-110, as
explained above. Also the Hallicrafters SX-110, which gives great audio even
while using the crystal filter function. .
10. Collins R-390. Second choice would be Hammarlund SP-600. Both are in
demand as you notice all the frequent traffic about them on Hammarlund
Digest.
