Subject: [Hammarlund] Please Respond To Historical Research

 1. What do you consider to be the best vacuum tube general coverage
receiver?
Why? The R-390/R390A series because of it's bullet proof front end and
sensitivity.

 2. What do you consider to be the vacuum tube receiver with the best audio
reproduction? Why? Those with the nice push pull audio
sections...SX-28/SX-62/NC-183D etc..
a close second would be my SP-600. I
own all I have listed.

 3. What do you consider to be the best vacuum tube receiver for both AM and
FM
listening? Why? Only one I own is the SX-62A...some of the best I have used
are Mcintosh tube stereo receivers.

 4. Which vacuum tube receiver have you enjoyed listening to the most since
first
becoming interested in radio? Why? SP-600. It has the nicest tuning
system...great audio and all around well
                                                           balanced
performance....not to mention it's great looks!

 5. What is the best vacuum tube receiver built for Ham band only coverage?
Why?
Best I have used are the Drake R4 Series. Can't beat Drakes
passband tuning system and
sound!

 6. What is the best sounding Ham band only vacuum tube receiver? Why?
I still vote the Drake R4 series here....it SSB sound beats most of
the earlier tube rigs. The 2B is a great
little radio as well. The SX-101 and HQ-170 series are great radios
though. Tough call. Have owned or currently
        own all of these.

 7. What company bilt the greatest number of good performing vacuum tube
general
coverage receivers? Tough call...Hallicrafters probably wins by sheer
numbers, they made sooooo many radio's, but
I think Hammarlunds Super Pro's performed better! I guess it depends on how
you look at it!

 8. Defining the term 'vintage' to be a receiver that is at least
twenty-five
years old, or built prior to 1978, which one is the best overall performing
general coverage receiver? Why? I think hands down the
R-390A...bulletproof front end and nice filters.

 9. Using the same criteria as in the previous question, which receiver had
the
best audio quality? Why? I think a tie between the R-390 and the SP-600.
LC Filters combined with all the other
                                            great attributes!

 10. If you could have any receiver ever manufactured, which one would you
choose
and why? I wouldn't mind trying a W-J HF-1000...seems to have all the
right features to be a killer DX radio...of
course the elusive Helena Rubinstein R-390A would be
right up there also! Hi Hi

11. If I had the liberty of adding which radio I thought was the best
looking of the boatanchors it would be the SX-28 with
the SP-600 a very close second....it don't get no better than those two!
