Remember that AM was the main mode on 6 meters when
Hammarlund introduced the HQ-110 and HQ-170 receivers.
The stability is sufficient for those modes. It just
isn't that good for SSB.
Also, a friend of mine telephoned me a couple of days
ago saying that he had been informed that Hammarlund
actually ran an ad for the HQ-170 professing that the
clock could turn the receiver on for a period before
operating in order for it to stabilize. I wonder if
anyone has actually seen this ad or if it rests in the
realm of "urban legends"?
I haven't really looked through my older magazines to
see if there ever was such an ad.

but when six meters opens up, i have to adjust the bfo
every few seconds to hear ssb. it drifts up, down, and
all around. someone did get a message to my inbox
saying that the hq-170 and even the revered sp-600
have the same problem. why would hammarlund offer six
meters on some rigs with no reguard to stability?
