Hi Boomer,
Like yourself, I enjoy the music of the Big Bands and was very
heartbroken when WQEW (1560 AM ) in NYC sold us "older folks" out and
leased it to the Disney people. I am in the area of NY State known as
the Finger Lakes area (by a little streach of the imagination), I am
actually about 25 miles east of Rochester and about 2 miles south of Lake
Ontario, and there are 2 AM stations that play the oldies and do come in
quite well, esp on the SP 600, JX-17. My favorite is CHWO on 740 from
Toronto, which you are probably aware of and then WLDZ on 990 from
Rochester, NY. I've tried WCRN but Worcester is too far and 5000 watts
is not enuf. WPTR on 1540 in Albany is usually decent with the BA's
and sometimes iffy with my assorted TO's, GE Supers and the Panasonic RF
2200. I have picked up CHWO as far south as Florence, SC, and their
best big band night is usually on Sat. Fri night is kind of a "Sock
Hop"

Best regards,
Bruce MacLellan
