I have an opportunity to buy a Hammarlund HQ-129X in rough and partial
condition. It works nicely, but some parts have been removed and the radio
has been modified. Original parts are not available. What is the value of
this radio?

The front panel is very rough, but just the paint is worn with no dings.
The panel
has lots of wear around the knobs. All of the black paint around the dial
and s-meter is gone. Knobs appear to be original with only a couple of them
cracked.

The crystal filter unit is gone, and has been replaced with a single IF-
type
transformer can.

The power supply has been removed along with the large inductors in the
filtering circuit and the rectifier tube. None of the original parts are
available.

The current power supply includes a 6 volt transformer for the filaments and
a couple of diodes in the ac power line to unknown filtering then to the
voltage regulator tube for B plate voltage. Yes it is a hazard because the
chasis can be hot. I would put in a transformer to isolate the power
supply if I buy this radio.

The 6H6 detector has been removed and replaced with a couple of solid state
diodes.

The seller is asking $50. Is this radio worth it?

Thanks,
