  Ooops, it seems I fudged the message.. The emulsion on a CD is on the top, 
it is not a good thing to use any paints on it. The laser passes thru the 
bottom to read and write to the emulsion, to put laquers,thinners,enamels etc 
over this emulsion will greatly reduce the life of the disk. There is a thin 
layer of protectant to prevent a typical marker from doing this, but paint 
has a far greater amount of thinners in it and it will eventually destroy the 
disc. One person emailed me saying its on the bottom, take your favorite 
Madonna cd and run a knife across the top label, let me know how it plays
