Respectfully, I disagree Chuck. Both radios do just fine on CW and SSB.
They require a certain amount of getting used to, and there are certainly
radios that perform better (but not THAT many TUBE radios); yet my HQ-180
is an excellent receiver I have used for months at a time-including
recently on CW, without the slightest difficulty... and that's w/o my
NIR-12 Dual-DSP unit (that isn't hooked up at the moment.)
At one time, MANY (~1964) years ago, I had an utterly unsatisfactory
HQ-170-A... drifted like a son-of-a-gun... 'til I found a 'good' 6C4 (I
think it was) oscillator tube-which settled it down considerably. I like my
HQ-180 very much-and would not consider selling it.
