I will let you all know that I have really been enjoying this thread. I
always wondered about that stuff, since my locksmith told me to lubricate my
front door lock by squirting WD-40 in it (!). I had always been told that
WD-40 turns to sludge in time. The gears in the SP-600 don't need lube, but
the axles they turn on sure do, and I want to make sure it doesn't freeze up
in a few decades (we think long-term here . . .)
