[Hammarlund] hq-180 question

Hello,

Im new to the group and have an hq-180 I bought at a hamfest Im going 
through. It works great on am and does pickup ssb nice too.  On ssb I do get 
a little fming on either lower or upper side. Its like its a little unstable 
might be a little more descriptive. Is this normal or do I have some more 
digging to do? Im just getting the manual procured so I havent started 
troubleshooting all the hotspots yet. Does anybody know what I have going on
