THAT FINAL ITEM: LICENSE DRIVE

And finally the story of a license drive. Not a campaign to get
people their ham license. Rather the tale of one determined
applicant who could not wait. It took place down-under as we
hear from Q-News Graham Kemp, VK4BB:

--

Here's an amazing story of amateur enthusiasm that must be one
for the record books. After many years of trying, Roscoe VK3TPJ
was overjoyed on receiving news of his pass in CW. After all
Roscoe has had a well-equipped HF station for years but hasn't
been able to use it without supervision.

So enthusiastic was our Roscoe that waiting for the call sign in
the mail was not for him. So he immediately jumped in his
Falcon and drove 1000K up to Sydney to visit the ACA in person.
He arrived at around 5am and waited a few hours for the office
to open.

When it did, he was told he needed a passport photo to stick onto
his new certificate. Undaunted, he went downstairs to an instant
photo machine at Wynyard Station. Five minutes later he was
back, photo in hand. Another five minutes elapsed and Roscoe
was VK3KRH - authorized to operate on all amateur bands. The
task achieved, he got in his car and drove straight home again -
after just four hours in Sydney and a round trip of approximately
2000 kilometers!

Congratulations to the new VK3KRH. You can catch up with him on
160 meter AM during the morning hours. (Q-News)
