To add one more piece of software to this list I would also recommend JT-Bridge (http://jt-bridge.eller.nu/) which integrates wsjt-x with rumlogng (and other logging programs). The author of JT_Bridge is also very active and responsive.
Also like to recommend that you get a USB sound card (if you do not have one yet) to use for your digital modes. This will allow you to have your alerts played through your macs sound card. One feature of the new K3S is that this is no longer required since all the audio and rig control is done over the USB interface (still saving my moneys :) )

Look at Flrig if you want a bit more detail in your rig control. RUMlogNG was a great recommendation (by Ron) for free logging - Tom is very responsive, also uses Elecraft gear so it works(!), it interfaces nicely with Fldigi, and it is available in the App Store for download and automatic updates. The other big set of digital modes are the JT* modes (JT6/JT9) and those can be handled with WSJT-X which includes an OS X version.
