[Ham-Mac] MMTTY vs Cocoamodem

John N1JM,

Sorry about the confusion on my part. My only experience with MMTTY was running it under Windows XP Pro via an emulator on an iMac and that was not good. Nothing seems to work as intended under emulation. I am aware MMTTY is one of the contesters decoder engines of choice; however, it does not run under OS X and I have no plans to ever own a PC. For this reason I use fldigi by W1HKJ that runs on Linux, Windows or OS X. We have to live with trade offs. I am more of a RTTY DXer than a contester but do like to participate in certain contests for fun rather than for score. Fldigi was not designed a contest application but it does have a good user interface for contesting. As a bonus fldigi supports most of the digital modes.

I cannot comment on cocoaModem since I stopped using it when I changed to fldigi a few years ago.

I quit using cocoaModem a few years ago and not only use fldigi.

During the last RTTY contest I ran cocoamodem/Mac with the audio from my second receiver in the K3(kind of SO2R). The main receiver ran with N1MM/MMTTY. Flipping back and forth a few times listening to the same signal, it seemed like cocoamodem struggled where mmtty was fine. And in general it seemed like cocoamodem did not copy signals well like I thought it should have compared to mmtty(with N1MM). Occassionally I have used RumPed in rtty contests and have felt the copy was not as good as it should be. But yet again I may be all wet :-).
