[Ham-Mac] microham on a mac

It is not a networking driver, so no it should not be there. Some
serial ports do show up there - the reasoning is that they _could_ be
used for SLIP communications. In general this is more of an annoyance
than anything, and the serial vendors are now adding the proper
information to the drivers so they do not show up as network interfaces.
Next question - why do you want to log in as root? This is rarely
something that you want to do on modern Macs, and is never something
that a non-developer needs to do. If you need access to root-level
things, then use the sudo command on the terminal command line. If you
don't know how to use the command line, then there are several
excellent tutorials on the web, including one at the Apple developer
site.
Now, for the microham situation, I seem to remember that they
multiplex the communications between the computer and their several
interfaces in their products. You will most likely need to multiplexer
code that runs on the host side. I know that Chen, K7AY has written
something that runs with his microham interface, perhaps it might work
for you as well. But, this is most likely the time that you want to
get hold of the microham folks and ask about their Mac OS X support,
and what is needed to make their devices work with the Mac.
Lastly, be sure to use the latest FTDI serial port drivers from their
web site. The ones on the microHam web site are out of date for the
Lion OS.
