Not sure what a CI-V cable is, but I believe you're asking about a CI-V to 9-pin serial adapter.  

There are two types of chips in these units.  I believe the FDDI (?) is preferred over the Prolific chipset.  

This is a great unit…I've used mine on a PC for RTTY with great success for years.
