[Ham-Mac] Waterfall questions redux

Thanks all for the great advice. I¹m not there yet, but I¹m getting closer!

Using the latest cocoaModem, with the mono and stereo patch cords connected
between my K3 and my Mac, and using some adjustments in the Config window, I
was able to get the waterfall going and decode PSK31 transmissions.
However, that¹s as far as I¹ve been able to get. I don¹t think I am
transmitting, as I can¹t get anyone to respond and the TX light does not go
on. I hear the output tone after I type and hit ³Transmit² and the text (in
blue) goes across the display in Xcvr1 window. I¹ve tried adjusting the
output levels, and I tried doing according to the instructions on the WA7Y
website manual (up to trigger ALC, then back down), but I can¹t get it to
trigger ALC with the test signal or anything else (TX ALC is On). On my K3,
I have LIN OUT set to ³nor 10² and I tried changing that level to no effect.
In the main menu, I have MIC SEL set to Line In (the default while in Data
mode). It occurred to me that I might have to turn VOX on the rig so the
LIN IN signal would cause the rig to transmit, but I only get N/A when
trying to selecting VOX on the rig. Also, would I have to manually hit the
Receive button each time the typed-in text is transmitted to stop
transmitting? That seems rather odd.

So, does this mean I have to run the K3 Utility or MLDX control the K3 to
transmit under PSK31 (just using cocoaModem for the waterfall, or is it just
desirable to do so? What am I doing something wrong?

A side issue. The guide states that the User Info is the subject of a
³handle² macro but there is no explanation as to how call up the macro for
transmitting. Command-c does nothing (except copy highlighted text, of
course).

Thanks again for your help.
