[Ham-Mac] OT -- Problems with Safari 3?

Ever since I upgraded the OS to 10.4.11 with its associated Safari  
update from V2 to V3 we've had nothing but problems with Safari....it  
burps on pages that V2 never had problems with before.  Spinning  
beach ball of death comes along several times a day requiring force- 
quit.....Firefox has no problems with those pages.

Apple Safari discussion pages are rife with similar complaints.   
Anyone seeing same issue?  Any resolution?  Have tried the normal  
stuff like dumping the "com.apple.Safari.plist" file along with "form  
values" and "download.plist", repaired permissions, ran Cocktail,  
blah blah blah.

Very frustrating.....am VERY close to shifting over to Firefox as  
default browser (imagine I'll get lots of "why haven't you done that  
anyway" comments!).
