As someone mentioned on the list several days ago, Xastir will  
compile and run nicely on OS X.  It is pretty good APRS software and  
can download maps over the internet.  I had some problems with the  
binary at macports.org so have been compiling my own.  If you are  
going to be using a TNC with a RS232 serial connection, Keyspan  
serial-USB adapters appear to be the preferred type.  There is an  
outfit in Greece <http://www.elcom.gr> making miniature TNCs with USB  
ports, so that might be the way to go.
