[Ham-Mac] MixW on a mac?

Hi Rich,

Steve has given a full run down on the iMic which is much appreciated
as it is so easy to get the levels wrong and it ceases to work.
From my experience running various ham programs on both Macs and PCs it
is essential to get the signal levels correct. I use an oscilloscope if
in doubt. I always avoid using the phone or speaker out put from the
rig as the levels are dependent on the volume control. Most rigs have
an AF detector output on the ACC socket which gives a constant
reference output. In my case I run an Icom 706 and the AF output is
fed via preset attenuator straight into the iMic. switched, as Steve
points out, to the line input setting. The preset attenuator can be
adjusted so that it is impossible to overdrive the iMic .
Finally make sure you have the settings on the iMic via its control
panel correct and enabled.

To go back to Mike's query (KC2TP) I find cocoaModem and MultiMode fine
for most Ham use. Neither have the sophistication of programs such as
Ham Radio Deluxe or some other PC programs - if that is what you want
then invest in a laptop/notebook PC!

On the TX side I note W7AY has written a PTT program but as I am
running OS 10.2.8 I believe I need to upgrade ---- more expense!
I confirm that there is no output from the iMic on receive with
cocoaModem so apart from using VOX this must be the way to go. I am
looking into the possibility of rectifying the PSK/RTTY output and with
a DC amplifier controlling a transistor switch across the PTT line.

Good luck es 73 John G3BBD / N3YZR
