Dick N5XRD,

I wish I lived near and could bring you a good SL-1 to try. Too bad there
is not ham-mac member in the North Dallas area.

I do not recall your reply about what happens when you put cocoaModem in the
Config mode and advanced the TX gain to Max. It had to be screamer at the
Pro III. If the Pro II was not hearing your iMic you either have a bad
SL-1, bad or defective cables or one of the jumpers in the SL-1 is not
making contact or was inserted in the wrong hole. I don't think the
transmit button on the Pro III has anything to do with the problem. It just
manually keys the rig.

In AFSC mode, your software, Mac and interface act like a microphone. The
SL-1 detects audio coming from the sound card output and closes the PTT line
for you. I know the SL-1's AutoPTT circuit is very touchy about having the
correct voltage. I tried several different wall warts (power supplies)
until I found one that would close the PTT circuit. If the SL-1 is voltage
starved, the red LED will flash rather than staying lit (closing the PTT
line). Your Red LED never came on at all so there must be an electrical
open somewhere from the output of the iMac to the input of the Pro III.

You never really commented on the Receive side. If you have good Rx, you
can transmit PSK using an Aggie Interface. Just hold the Pro III Mic up to
the iMac's speaker and have the rig in VOX. Try it and see if you can get
power out of the Pro III.

BTW, you should be able to hear the cocoaModem tones coming out of the iMic
by plugging in a speaker or headset to the iMac? This will let you know if
the Mac is doing its thing so you only have to then mess with the SL-1 or
the cable.

The above is something you can do while waiting on a replacement SL-1+ from
Tigertronics. Did you return their cable too?

Good luck

73, Dick AA5VU
