Lon, you say that the "rm *" command doesn't report anything? that  
would mean there was nothing in the trash or that everything was  
deleted.
use "ls -a" to list all files, including invisibles, in the trash  
folder. Is there anything? If not, you might have a File Directory or  
system problem.
