Steve,

If you just want to copy PSK, tap the external speaker port from your rig
and feed it to the line-in port on your G3. You will be good to go for
Multimode, coocaModem or whatever software. If you want to transmit PSK or
RTTY, you need to address how you are going to handle audio output from the
Mac and how to close the PTT circuit. Those that are unwilling to purchase
or build an interface box, just hold the rig's mike up to the G3 speaker and
run with VOX on.

One of the nice things about the SignaLink SL-1+ Interface box is it takes
care of this for you.... provided you buy the interface cables. The best
thing about the SL-1+ is the Auto PTT circuit that detect the transmit audio
from the computer and closes the PTT line on the rig. This was the main
reason I selected the SL-1. I have a Kenwood TS-570 with the miserable
13-Pin DINN connector. Life is too short for me to every solder one again. I
paid $10 for SignaLink to provide the cable.

Yes, Apple has weird or non standard connections. One of the issue with
using the speaker output on the back of the Mac is it mutes the internal
speaker and you will lose the system beeps. This is why I use the iMic I
already had for the the transmit interface. I could not get the iMic to
handle the receive interface. There was some weird impedance mismatch that
made the Mac deaf to my Kenwood TS-570's output.

Good luck...... the Mac interface it is NOT easy but once your get it
working it works great.
