Regular 1/8 inch stereo phone plug. The special Apple 1/8 inch
4-circuit phone plug is just a hack to provide power to the preamp in
their microphones without frying any line-out source you might happen
to want to plug into that input jack. The tip is longer than usual, and
mates with a fourth contact that provides the power. A standard
3-circuit 1/8 inch phone plug just mates with the regular signal
contacts.

The input and output levels are compatible with normal consumer audio
line levels.
