First of all, try repairing permissions; many times permission  
problems can get in the way of successful printing.

You could also try deleting all the printers in Printer Setup Utility  
and then re-adding them, that may work as well.

A very useful utility to help with printing problems is Printer Setup  
Repair. You can find the latest version for Panther (and also the new  
one for Tiger) at

http://www.fixamac.net/software/psr/index.html

That software can correct a number of problems that appear in Mac OS  
X with regard to printing.
