[Ham-Mac] Why Partition vs. Erase a SATA hard drive?

You missed my point. I realize the Partition lets you split the disc.  I do
not use split disc drives so I have always used the "Erase" option. The
installation instructions that came with the Serial-ATA/PCI-M card makes it
a point to use the Partition option in the Disc Utility.

I wonder why the SIIG docs STRONGLY suggest the use of Partition option?
What is the difference between Erase and a Single Partition?
