[Ham-Mac] Why Partition vs. Erase a SATA hard drive?

Dick,
The Partition tab on my Disc Utility is pretty straight forward.
Let's you "Split" and partition and then you can slide it around to
set the exact size you want.
Are you on the right screen?
If I click the drive on the left panel I have five tabs:
First Aid - Erase - Partition - Raid - Restore
