Hi everyone,

Name here is Peter, call is G0GSZ. My QTH is Norwich, Norfolk, UK.
I've been a radio ham since about 1984 and a SWL since about 1957.

Up until about 18 months ago I have only used PC's for my computing /
ham activity (after the run of Spectrum ZX, Atari, Amiga, etc., that
is). Although I still have a PC (laptop) running Packet (WinPac 6.8 on
Windows XP) I only really use the mac for computing.

I also like to play around with Digital Video as well, and find the mac
head and shoulders above the PC for that.

I'd like to get active with the mac on the amateur radio side and hope
to be able to pick up some good info from this list. So I hope to hear
from some of you soon! I'll go and take a look at the archived messages
as soon as I can.

My current Mac is the new eMac 1.25 MHz, Combo drive, 256Mb RAM, 40 Gb
HD. 2 Firewire 400 ports, and 3 USB 2.0

I have an external (USB 2) DVD +/- R/RW in a case that I plug into the
PCMCIA card (2 x USB 2) on the PC Laptop. This works very well on the
mac, without the need of loading in drivers. Mind you, it's an MSI
drive so won't work iDVD, but burns DVD's via Toast Titanium 6.

I am going to try taking the optical drive out of the carrier and
slotting in a hard drive, just to see if I can make an external hard
drive for backing up my video stuff. Any advice on this would be
appreciated.

Long 'over' for the first time. Hope to hear from some of you soon.

73 all, de Peter
G0GSZ
