[Ham-Mac] anti virus software

I disagree with some of the posts here. I think you DO need antivirus
software simply so you can play nice with the rest of the world.
Although Windows viruses won't hurt Macs, macro viruses CAN be spread
from Macs to Windoze machines when you are using Excel or Word so you
need to be careful.

I am a devoted .Mac fan, and highly recommend the service for a number
of reasons -- but VIREX is NOT one of them. The original version 7.5
was responsible for trashing my all of my email files -- a well know
problem documented on MacFixit - and Apple quickly pulled it from the
.Mac site and replaced it with the older version. The most recent and
current version of Virex totally hoses any ability to hot sync a Palm
device using iSync. You get to choose..... hot sync your Palm or have
Virex installed. Thank heavens Virex provides an uninstaller and I used
it pretty quick!

The cheapest and best anti-virus program I have found is the free
clamXav -- available from versiontracker. It doesn't have all of the
features of a Virex (not yet anyway), but it doesn't screw up my files
or hot sync ability the way that Virex does.
