It's obvious that people interested in doing any development work are
going to upgrade, it's a "no brainer". Just look at XCode by itself...
However, those who just use the system for email, web browsing, and
minor other tasks will find it hard to justify the money, and I
understand that.
My personal view? It's ludicrous for Apple to demand full price for
*upgrades*, I think that they should offer a version upgrade for a
lesser price, say, $69.95 or so... Nobody would even agree on what that
price should be, but it should be something of a discount nonetheless.
Thanks to all who responded. I wasn't trolling, and I'm not trying to
part you from your hard earned money. I wanted to get a feel, as a
developer, as to what level of support was going to be required for
MacOS X hamradio type applications. I received the clear answer that
although many will/may upgrade, there are many who won't, and it would
be a shame to leave them behind with no app support if it's possible to
make it work.
