Bingo. You can get away with using poorly shielded or sensitive
equipment, *if* they are not used an a high RF enviroment. If you keep
the RF out of your shack, they will usually work fine. This is done by
keeping the antennas away from the house, using good quality
transmission lines, a balun at the dipole if using coax, keeping your
harmonics down, and perhaps most important of all, having a well thought
out grounding scheme for your shack and all equipment. 

That said, a lot of recently made consumer electronics is extremely
poorly shielded, and you may have to go the extra mile to make it work.
But your work will pay off, not only in reduced EMI, but also in better
performance from your ham equipment.
