Programs written to run under Linux will not run on the Mac without
being ported. Programs written for Linux may or may not be able to be
ported to the Mac. In most cases, Linux programs rely on X Windows -
and X Windows would require that you run something like XR11 giving you
a different look and feel to the software. It would not be the same as
the Aqua interface you are used to.
In some cases, I understand that some libraries are available in the
Linux world that aren't available on the Mac/Unix side -- so these
programs could not be compiled to run on the Mac. (I don't know much
about Linux and porting, so others probably have better info.)
Having said that.....I think it is important that we view Linux -> Mac
ports of amateur radio programs as a PLUS, not a MINUS. It may not have
the look and feel of the Mac, and it may be only half a loaf - but at
least it is SOMETHING!
