The biggest issue with a prebuilt app is that Xastir runs under the X11
environment. I could make an installer but I would have to assume that
the user does not have X11 nor the developer tools installed. The
installer would end up being something like 800+ MB compressed. At my
house, I have 4 OSX boxes here with Xastir. When I want to do an
update I just run the cvs update on one machine. When it is done I
have an Apple Script that tars up the /sw directory and installs it on
the other machines. This would work as an installer on other people
machines but the problem is the file is 1.3GB. Either way we are
talking about a huge file.
As stated below it is really easy to build Xastir the hard part is
making sure you have all the correct packages installed under X11
before trying to build it. Matters could be simplified by creating a
script that automatically instructs Fink to install everything
necessary. Next time I do a build from scratch I'll give it a try.
Anyone else interested in getting involved? Respond to me off the list
and we can work out the details.
