Hi,
I am glad you found the answers you wanted. May I suggest
that you try TowerTalk at contesting.com for additional information.
There are a number of experts there who offer opinions freely.
Personally, on 80m, I like a half sloper or sloping vertical.
Presently, I have a 1/2 wavelength (at 80m) sloping vertical
wire above some elevated radials. I use the same antenna
on 160m (1/4 wavelength). The wire slopes up to the top
of a 55' tower.
I once had a half sloper (shortened) fed against the tower and
it worked well, too.
The best antenna I have ever tried was a 5/8 vertical supported
by a balloon and with elevated radials.
