I am in the process of upgrading a couple of old Mac. The first one is a
Umax J700 and the other is a PPC 8100. I am thinkikg about putting at least
one Seagate 9.1 gig HD in each of these computers. Since I have five of
these drives, I might put 2 in each computer and the last one in an externa=
l
SCSI case.

The problem I have is that the drives are 80 pins while my Macs are 50 pins=
.
I have been looking around on the internet for adapters. I=B9ve got 2 problem=
s
with the information I found:

1. Some people tell me that I need a 80-50 SCA adapter with LVD (whatever
that means) while others tell me that a simple 80-50 SCA adapter will do th=
e
job.
2. I found the regular SCA adapter online at around US$ 10 while the other
adapter (with LVD) sells for at least US$ 20. Those prices are ridiculous !
I paid less than US$ 50 for the 5 drives and now I will have to pay double
that for the adapters !!! No way.

Could someone tell me if the LVD feature is mandatory for these adapters to
work ? If so, does anybody knows a seller that will not ask outrageous
prices for the adapters ?

Finally, if someone has similar capacity 50 pins drives, could there be an
exchange ? Please let me know.

I am doing this for fun. I guess I should have checked the prices before
buying the drives. Oh well...
