Yup. Some of the Apple "mic" inputs expect more of a "line" level 
input, if I remember correctly. The longer plug was to supply +5 to 
an amplifier built into the mic housing.

I've only tried one QSO, and then the problem was that the other 
station was breaking up on the repeater. Connecting to *echotest* 
seems to work just fine.

I think that means that more than two persons are participating in the QSO.
