This is a very strange problem. I am using a new iMac G4 800 MHz LCD and
system X with Sys 9.2 in background with a few programs on it. Sys X is
mostly used on Internet, a large database is on with Sys 9.2, run 3 Browsers
because of problem, IE, NS, AOL all latest versions. The database is 6 MB
of data, all is kept in RAM when it runs, it is always on even when not in
use.
After about a days use IE is affected 1st, and if more then one window
is open under IE(Browser of choice) when you switch windows IE suddenly shuts
down. As time goes on IE will quit every time the second window is open and
switch between the 2 occurs....IE shuts down even faster if 3 or 4 IE windows
are open.
Some of the other programs running will also suddenly shut down,
including the database(Panorama) in same fashion when used with more then one
window.
In addition the HD eventually gets corrupted and even will not recognize
my password. Eventually, although not at first, a HD error will show and it
must be repaired with disk 1st aid. A new password must be chosen to even
start the iMac.
Apple service has been great and very cooperative. Apple has replaced
the mother board, HD, memory, AC line input filter assembly, power
cord....all except Harness, LCD screen and PS.
It still happens, have not called Apple back yet.
I have reached the conclusion the database, which works perfectly in
Classic Mode is somehow causing the corruption of the HD data.
Has anyone had similar problems, I am (almost) too embarrassed to call
Apple.
Tnx and 73, Bruce K2RTH
