OK.  I recall that to use a Mac with a generic/PC modem it was also 
necessary sometimes to make special settings in (1) the Mac comm. 
app. and/or (2) the modem, to map a Mac handshaking serial-port 
pin/line to/from some RS-232-C line/pin of the modem, to tell the 
modem to ignore a certain input, to hold a certain output constant, 
und so weiter.  Sometimes the modem mapping/setting was done via PCB 
jumpers, sometimes via internal or external DIP switches, sometimes 
via Hayes-type AT commands, and IIRC sometimes you had to modify the 
wiring of a 25-pin connector.  It's been years so I've forgotten, but 
RS-232-C has _so_ many goodies like RTS, CTS, CD, DTR, ....  And then 
there's the BREAK signal.

Is there anything we should know about such mappings/setting beyond 
what's built into your program and/or written about in its 
documentation?
