[Ham-Mac] Are you running OSX on your Mac ?

Somebody asked what Macs are people running. Here goes;

I have a 300 MHz Yosemite G3 as the main computer. I am running OS 9.2.1 and
have OS X (uninstalled). Having gotten over my initial reluctance to change
systems, I bought 2 512 MB sticks of memory for it so that I can install
OS-X. Will do it tomorrow. I am impressed with 9.2.1 though, it is pretty
stable and seems as fast or faster than any system 8. My daughter is leaving
for college in the fall and I expect to be able to use this computer full
time then :^)

The shack computer is a 6100/60 running system 8.1 I use this for logging
mainly and also do some spectral measurements with MacCRO. MacCRO is a great
spectrum analyzer/oscilloscope application by the way. The main use of the
6100 is as a bridge between an ethernet and appletalk net. I need the
Appletalk net for my Quadra 610 and Stylewriter 2500. I use Laserwriter
bridge (?) to do this and it won't run on any later system. By the way
Chris, Multimode runs on the 6100, but rather slowly. I have a surplus
upgrade card to install in this, but I need to get rid of the Appletalk
requirement first. I am working on that.

My wife uses the 610, mostly for geneology. It runs System 8.1.

I also have a Performa 6400/200 that I need to get an ethernet card for.
This has an Epson Stylus 600 printer attached that I would like to network.
This will become the shack computer and I will let my wife have the 6100.
Now my daughter uses it to play Diablo II when I check the e-mail. This runs
System 8.5. I found out the hard way that it won't run System 9.2.1. It will
run System 9, but after buying one 9 I don't feel like buying another.

I have a Quadra 650 which I think I will use for a firewall when I get cable
internet access.

I use an old Macintosh SE as a terminal for packet. Those old machines are
great and they keep on chugging.

The old Powerbook 170 still gets used for general things, outdoor writing,
and to amuse the kids when the power goes out.

The IIsi doesn't see much use these days. It is by far the least interesting
Mac I own. On the other hand, when I brought home an SE 5 years ago the kids
fought over "that neat thing".

I sent my daughter off to college with an iMac. The original. She wants a
new one for graduation this May, so I may add the old iMac to my collection.
Plus I need to get my youngest daughter a computer for when she goes off to
college this fall. She wants a G4 tower, not a Luxo iMac though.

With the exception of the G-3, IIsi, and the iMac, all of these computers
were surplus from work or gifts from coworkers who were upgrading. That
includes the Hub for my ethernet. I call it my Dumpster Net. :^) My kids
call it my Mac Museum. My wife wants to know if I really need all those
computers.

My name is Jim. I am a MacAddict. :^) - Dr. Megacycle KK6MC/5
