It would help to know what device you're connecting to your Mac, but 
you can find the wiring diagram for a hardware handshake RS-422 
MiniDIN 8 - RS-232 DB25 cable at

If you have ResEdit, you can find this same wiring diagram in the 
PICT resource of the Apple Modem Tool at number 20825.
