[Ham-Linux] Live or deceased?

Hi,

Well ya know,

I replaced my OS a few months ago and changed mail software since
Evolution (in the new distribution) refused to import what it only just
hours before exported (in the old distribution). I had to rebuild my
directory structure and filters as the messages came. Today is the first
message from this list so now I have the directory and filter all set.

I have started playing with the software a lot more and talking about it
in other mail lists. I use fldigi as made for Linux in my Linux Mint OS
and some packages that are for Windows-only running under WINE. I'll be
looking at some more software but so far I am really liking fldigi,
Spectran, Spectrum Lab, and ARGO. I am going to be testing fldigi and
Spectran on an old IBM Thinkpad that would be ideal for field operations.

I wonder how many list members are running those and what results with
some of the older hardware. I've been using fldigi for psk and rtty, as
a panadapter and plan to use it as a digital memory keyer on CW. I have
not found *ANY* software or machine that will reliably copy CW in the
*REAL WORLD*. I do not use it for that. Spectran serves very well as a
panadapter AND it has some very effective but so easy to use audio
filtering. Spectrum Lab has the same (and much, much, much more) but has
a steep learning curve because it does so very much more.

73,

Bill KU8H
