The distrowatch chatter is just that - noisy chatter.
The "opposing opinion" author has a right to be wrong
and to post his opinion but not to be considered
authoritative.
I have lengthly first-hand experience and I disagree
with a negative assessment of the Puppy Forum - without
fear of successful contradiction.
The folks on the Puppy Forum have not only helped me
they have done so repeatedly and patiently for a long
time.
Have there been rare occasions when someone on the
volunteer Puppy team has snapped at someone and later
apologized, yes. Have there been arrogant people on
the Forum who have been asked to leave, rarely but
yes. Have there been differences of opinion, yes --
and folks have been encouraged to develop and share
specialized versions of Puppy.
Tell me of an Apple, Linux, or MS-version-of-windows
distro with a Forum absent any discord? No such thing
in this world. The presumption that one distrowatch
poster who had a bad experience thus speaks authoritatively
for what happens on the Puppy Forum is not realistic.
I have observed Forum members taking the time to walk
people through procedures, to create self-loading apps for
others (including for me), and to direct people to additional information.
The Puppy Wiki and Help resources are, like most, dated
and incomplete in places -- they do not have paid staff
to handle such things.
It is an excellent distro created and maintained by a
team of volunteers. It is one of the smallest and most
versatile, it is complete for most users, and is free.
Perhaps all of that is threatening to other distros?
One must be VERY careful what one believes when reading
negative opinions online and even more restrained when
suggesting that they have any credibility.
